Gilgit-Hunza-Shimshal
Jeep Safari
Traveling
along the KKH is an experience that will not fail to captivate and enthrall
you. The landscape is striking. In places, sheer, snow-capped mountains ascend
from deep valleys while, elsewhere, lush alpine meadows are captured in
colorful wildflowers and dazzling apple blossoms. Terraced villages are dotted
around this monumental terrain, supported by traditional farming methods and
lifestyles that have seen little change over the centuries.
Each
day provides a new and exciting scene-the reason why this experience has gained
so much popular support from international travelers. Talk to anyone who has
driven the 1284 km-long highway twists through three great mountain ranges- the
Himalaya, Karakoram and Pamirs-and follows one of the ancient silk routes along
the valleys of the Indus, Gilgit and Hunza Rivers.

Hindukush Polo
Festival Jeep Safari
Polo
lovers enjoy their true Passion on the world's highest Polo ground at Shandur
Polo ground. This invites visitors to experience a traditional polo tournament
between the teams of Chitral and Gilgit during the 2nd week of July every year.
The tournament is held on Shandur Pass, the highest polo ground in the world at
3,700 meters. The festival will also include folk music and dancing and a
camping village is set up.
In
1936 the first polo tournament took place at Shandur Pass which was organized
by a British Political Agent, Major Cobb. He was fond of playing polo under a
full moon, had the polo ground here, and named, "Moony Polo Ground".
The
most exciting polo tournament of Shandur Pass is a very special occasion for
both people of the entire Gilgit Baltistan and Chitral. It is a place unique
and exotic in itself, decorated by small wild flowers, herbs, beautiful green
plateau surrounded by most fantastic mountain scenery in the world. The event
marks the annual rivalry between the polo teams of Gilgit and Chitral. The Polo
tournament has some added attractions for the visitors; such as fishing at the
nearby streams, lakes, a festival of folk dances and energetic folk music of
the Northern Pakistan adds colors to the event.

Hidden
in the mountains a dramatic, barren gorge 19 km long is surprisingly green and
lush valley of Naltar. Some climatic quirk gives Naltar about 410mm of rainfall
per year, more than three times that of Gilgit and the valley is heavily wooded
with pine, spruce, birch, rowan and juniper.
Naltar
village at 2800m has an army ski-training resort and is a good place to chill
out and take a short easy trek around the valley. It is also starting point for
two longer treks, one across the Naltar Pass 4600m to Ishkoman and the other
across the Daintar Pass 4636m to Chalt.
